NATURE Connection WITH ONLINE MENTORING

Unprecedented times call for unprecedented nature connection—in whatever forms we can find it. Whether we are walking through the woods or simply gazing at the sky through a window, nature remains a force for constancy and healing.

We are excited to share some creative ways for all of us to stay connected, so that we can continue sharing nature inspirations and support for our community. You’ll find links for remote nature-connection learning opportunities below.

Flying Deer Kit Camps

With at-home projects and online mentoring, Kit Camps are a fun and unique way for kids to explore the nature around your home, have fun working with their hands, and enjoy the satisfaction of adventuring and creating on their own, with parents, or with siblings and friends! Each Kit Camp includes:

  • Supplies as needed, to be picked up curbside on the Friday prior to camp (or mailed for a small fee)
  • Virtual class meetings on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am–12:00 pm, including time together and time outside
  • Adventures for the family on the Flying Deer land in East Chatham
  • Access to instructors for questions and mentoring.

Staff Video Series

Put On Your Owl Eyes: The Book

Program Director Devin Franklin has launched a new online course to accompany his book, Put On Your Owl Eyes. It’s great for kids and adults to use on your own as well, as we’re all getting to know our backyards even better! If you don’t already have a copy, you can purchase it online. If you find yourself financially unable to purchase a copy, we would be happy to send you one; contact us at info@flyingdeernaturecenter.org.

Put On Your Owl Eyes: Professional Development for Educators

In this online teacher training course based on Flying Deer Program Director Devin Franklin’s Put On Your Owl Eyes nature guide, educators working in Pre-K through middle school gain inspiration and knowledge to support their work creating outdoor learning environments, as well as integrating the gifts of nature education into all curriculum areas. Starts July 1.
