SATURDAY PUDDLES

We arrived at the Cobble this morning nervously looking at the sky and bracing ourselves for a day of wind and rain. Suited up in waterproof layers and wool socks, we tried to determine the depth of the huge puddle that now takes up most of the parking lot!

We came together for an opening circle, and decided to stay together for the day as a big group. We sang a rain song and figured out a silly riddle before heading up to camp.

The forest was bright with autumn colors, and the rain was holding off when we arrived at the creek site. We ate snack, then quickly broke into a few different activities around camp. River Otter led a dam building crew, and students organized themselves to gather clay from upstream and bring it down to improve the dam. Emily took a few students to an obstacle course up the hill, while Amelia and Queenfisher built a roaring fire under the tarp and got started on some crafts. We had lots of basswood for cordage, and woods to make coal-burned spoons.

River Otter told a Celtic folklore story during lunch, and we had a little bit more free time to finish off crafts in the afternoon before our big game. We split into two teams and played Hive Wars. Each team tried to sneak across the middle line and tag the Queen Bee from the other side. It ended in a stalemate, with lots of sneaking and running efforts throughout. We had closing circle up in the woods, then came back down to the parking lot to play bobcat dodgeball and say goodbye. We lucked out with the weather today, and ended up with soaking socks after building the dam of jumping in the puddle.

See you in November!
