We have made so many memories this semester! Thank you so much to all our young students and parents for being a part of this growing vision!
This semester was full of exciting projects. The Roly Polies learned how to make black walnut dye, how to make burn bowls and spoons, how to use a strap drill and flint and steel, and so much more! They each found a safe space in the forest for sit spots and created a garland to adorn and honor the tree they felt called to, brought gifts to the medicine tree, and carefully tended to the land around camp.
Parents joined us for our final morning circle of the year. We got to sing our good morning song together and move our bodies like Roly Polies. We joined the Woolly Bears, our 3-day Forest K group, on the We-drill friction fire, and we all worked together to create a coal that we then carried to camp to start our fires. It was a moment that truly embodied the vision of Flying Deer—bringing the community together for fun in the forest!
It’s been an incredible semester. We can’t wait to see you all on the land next year!
