The Mohican Journey Exhibit

Flying Deer is honored to be a host of the traveling Mohican Journey exhibit, which will be onsite beginning September 19. A collaboration between the Sheffield Historical Society, Mt. Everett High School, and the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans, this interactive, multimedia exhibit breaks down the history of the Muhheconneok, the “People of the Waters that are Never Still.”

Tracing the tribe’s journey from their ancestral homelands in the Berkshires to their present home in Wisconsin, the exhibit combines art, artifacts, and audio and video elements. Content from Dorothy David’s A Brief History of the Mohican Nation is included, as well as personal narratives that Mt. Everett Art Department teacher Stephanie Graham captured this summer on a road trip following the path the Mohicans took when driven from their ancestral lands west to their current homelands in Wisconsin.

The exhibit will be open to children and families in our year-round Homeschool programs. It will also be open to visitors on September 28, in conjuction with a Flying Deer Speaker Series talk by Shawn Stevens (Red Eagle), an enrolled member of the Stockbridge Munsee Band and a musician, artist, and historian.

Reservations are required for the talk, reception, and exhibit viewing on September 28. Register here.
