I can’t begin to express how beautiful the day was. Sunny, warm, and filled with good times with these amazing students!
We began the day in two separate groups, orienting to the day, and playing some games with a teamwork theme in the field.
We gathered together for snacktime to hear the story of the Peacemaker—from this land, passed on by the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, a group of six indigenous nations in present day New York State that united and created a governing system based on peace and cooperation, after generations of conflict, to create a great lasting Peace that began nearly 500 years ago and continues to this day. We give our thanks to them for sharing this story with the world.
We split back into our groups and began the day. Many students continued work on their Atlatls, and others journeyed to the top of Hurlburt’s Hill to behold the majesty of this land from an incredible viewpoint atop the highest point at Bartholomew’s Cobble. They engaged in activities and games that encourage awareness of one’s surroundings in a fun way.
Atlatls were harvested from the landscape and finishing touches were put upon the darts, tying feathers to the tail end to make them fly straight and we finished the day in high spirits!
What a day! Nature is good. These kids are a blessing.
