We found ourselves gripped by the chill of the morning as we arrived for Cobblers and warmed up to being back with our friends and in a snowy home school environment. The morning was filled with excitement for snow and quickly we began working on snow shelters and seeing who could harvest the largest snow chip.
We warmed up our hearts with some gratitude, while welcoming a new friend into our group for the first time. We will be learning a new song over the winter semester and we heard it for the first time first thing in the morning. We warmed up our bodies with a game about Weasels chasing voles through snow tunnels in the subnivian layer and then off we went across the snow field and up to our campsite.
With a group effort, a fire was born and some of us hunkered close to the fire for snack. The campsite had completely changed with the fresh snow pack left from our winter break and we set out to explore. Our exploring broke us into two groups looking for animal tracks near our campsite. We found many sign of animals, walking, foraging, and hunting in the snow. We wandered through frozen cattail marshes and around the frozen creeks.
With lunch we settled in for some hot cider and a story about Fairies protecting a special grassy clearing called a rath from farmers looking for places to settle in ancient Ireland. We spent the rest of the day on sleds, creating new sled tracks though the creek beds and cruising down the icy tractor path over and over again!
