More than ever before, children need the chance to unplug, experience positive connections, and learn about the land on which they live. Your support will allow us to continue this work in 2024, through these initiatives and more:
- Expanding opportunities for children beyond our campuses by introducing intergenerational BIPOC programming, establishing a comprehensive lending library of outdoor gear, and growing community collaborations that bring nature experiences to children in locations throughout the region
- Amplifying indigenous voices through sponsoring the second annual Mohican Children’s Homeland trip, inviting Mohican leadership to our Board of Directors, and providing space for indigenous teachers and leaders to share their knowledge and stories
- Strengthening our team of leaders by expanding avenues for employment at Flying Deer to encompass people from many different backgrounds, through increased internships, training opportunities, and sustainable compensation
- Empowering future leaders by offering stewardship projects in which youth gain the tools and motivation to become earth advocates; continuing to grow our counselor program, which now engages 65+ teens; and launching our Elder Circle, in which experienced mentors will share their wisdom and learn from the children and one another
At Flying Deer, children experience lessons and transformations that will never leave them. Our world is a challenging place. Every seed of positive connection or inner strength we sow makes a difference in a child’s life—and far beyond them.
